There is such a false identity surrounded around those who choose not to shave, so let me broaden your perspective. Society frowns upon it, but I still shave when I want to. Join me to explore the possibilities of freedom.

Let me take you back to a time in a land called middle school when I first realized that the hair on my legs and under my arms was even an issue to my knowledge. I happen to be in a gym class and there was always that one girl with the mom who would allow her to do everything the older girls were doing without question. Of course she was popular, rude, and obnoxious. You know the usual. Then came the shocking explosion when she said “ooh girl you need to shave”.
I was instantly embarrassed, but now today I’m like, “I SHAVE WHEN I FUCKING WANT TO!”
Often I have wondered where did shaving come from and when did it become so popular to the point that people were looked down upon for it. In my opinion people simply associate hair with funk. Shall we take a closer look at the science of this. Yes you do sweat which activates the apocrine glands that causes the odor in those hairy areas. Furthermore, apocrine glands located in those hairy areas such as the armpits, groin, and scalp secrete a fatty type sweat directly into the glands tubules. When triggered by stress, the tubules push sweat into the skin’s surface where the bacteria breaks it down and produces odor. Other factors include your diet and environment , but keep in mind that sweat is not bad for it also releases toxins that the body can do without.
Now what about this history that no one seems to care about but me lol. Oh well lets learn a little together because you might be surprised. According to an article on the history of shaving we (including men) have a history of love and hate with removing bodily hair which I agree one hundred percent. Like I said, “I shave when I fucking want to!” Ripping, plucking, tweezing, burning, and pulling hair is believed to have gone back as far as 4000 B.C. Unfortunately, we went to extreme measures like using dangerous substances such as arsenic and quicklime to achieve our physical desire much like we do in modern times such as using nair.
Each generation has had a different reason for this so called unwanted hair, but when did this become an embarrassment to women? In May of 1915 a model in a slip like dress with her underarms revealed was advertised by Harpers Bazaar Magazine. During that era it was a big deal considering women were completely covered from wrist to ankle and then hair became the talk due to women not shaving in the 20th century. As I mentioned earlier in my blog who knew hair was a problem until someone decided to make it that with our everyday words. Marketing strategies began to overwhelm us to get with the program of shaving. And here we are still following the trend, but don’t get it twisted there are bold ones like me who are now dying their underarm hair. How cool is that! I mean “come on” in the words of my two year old Greyson, why do we really do this shit? Okay, okay there is no doubt that I love the sleek feel as well as the next girl, but like my mommy always says, “Everything on our body has its purpose”. Let me also remind you that shaving is of western culture.
However, I have the best of both worlds because I shave when I fucking want to. I literally have my days when I want to shave and when I go months without shaving. Seriously ladies tell me you don’t have those moments, so what’s up with all the shaming. Oh I see maybe its because you might not be as comfortable as the next with allowing their own naturalness to go with the flow of mother nature. Hey that sounds like a “you” problem. Hmm…and then there is the other perspective that your lover doesn’t like hair. Well lets just say hypothetically every women decided not to shave ever again. Yeah I know that’s a really extreme example, but really would they leave us alone forever. Either way choose whatever is comfortable for you, but as for me I shave when I fucking want to and represent those who don’t give two cents about your thoughts of how our body freely expresses it birthright.
